The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Winnie Mandela Precinct Officers, arrested four (4) suspects for armed robbery and possession of stolen goods in the Winnie Mandela area.
While conducting visible patrols along D M Marokane Drive, Officers attempted to stop a silver Toyota Quest, where the driver failed to stop, which resulted in a brief pursuit. The vehicle was eventually intercepted at the corner of D M Marokane Drive and Indrovu Avenue.
Officers searched the vehicle and recovered a black replica firearm with two (2) rounds of blank ammunition, as well as several cellphones suspected to be stolen.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect’s vehicle had allegedly been used in several robbery incidents in and around the Tembisa area. While officers were transporting the suspects to the South African Police Service Tembisa Police Station, five (5) complainants came forward and registered armed robbery cases against the suspects.
All four male suspects, aged between twenty-eight (28) and forty (40) years, were detained at the Tembisa Police Station and are facing charges of armed robbery and possession of stolen goods.
