The distribution of drugs to Western Cape communities was dealt a blow when police members arrested a suspect for the possession of drugs on Monday, 23 March 2026.
Members of the Breede River K9 Unit received information about drugs being transported from Johannesburg to Cape Town. The members conducted observation along the N1 Highway and spotted the identified truck approaching, and stopped it near Worcester.
The narcotic dog, Bella, was utilised to sniff through the driver’s compartment and reacted to two boxes inside. Upon searching the truck, members discovered 20 plastic containers containing methamphetamine and subsequently arrested a 59-year-old male for the possession of drugs. The estimated street value of the drugs is R5.6 million.
The suspect will appear in the Worcester Magistrate’s Court once he has been charged.
