The vigilance of De Rust police members conducting crime combatting operations in their policing precinct ensured that two men found themselves behind bars after drugs with an estimated street value of R57 000 were confiscated at De Rust in the Garden Route District.
On Friday, 10 April 2026 at about 19:25 De Rust police members conducted crime prevention patrols when they spotted a suspicious looking vehicle at Vygie Street, Blomnek. The members approached the vehicle when they noticed a parcel being dropped. They brought the vehicle, a Mazda Midge, to a halt and inspected the parcel when they found mandrax tablets inside. The members confiscated 950 mandrax tablets as well as a small quantity of mandrax powder. Both occupants aged 36 and 39 were arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs each. The motor vehicle was also seized.
Furthermore, crime combatting operations in the Garden Route which commenced on Friday, 10 April 2026 and concluded this morning, 12 April 2026, led to the arrest of 119 suspects for drug related offenses. The police confiscated small quantities of mandrax, tik and dagga during these arrests. Most of these arrests were affected at Pacaltsdorp (13), Conville (11), Oudtshoorn (11) and Dysselsdorp (10). A total of eight suspects were arrested for dealing in drugs, of which four were arrested in Calitzdorp.
The suspects remain in police custody and will appear in their respective courts once charged.
These arrests form part of concerted efforts by police to eradicate substance abuse which remains one of the contributors to serious and violent crimes in the district.
