The South African Police Service (SAPS), in collaboration with government departments and community stakeholders, recorded significant successes during #OperationShanela II conducted from 23 to 26 April 2026 across the Mpumalanga province.
Law enforcement teams carried out extensive operations, including searches, roadblocks, patrols, and tracing of wanted suspects, aimed at stabilising crime hotspots and enforcing compliance.
Hostels were searched and illegal liquor outlets were shut down.
The operation led to the arrest of over a thousand suspects for serious offences such as murder, attempted murder, rape, assault, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, drug-related crimes, illegal liquor trading, illegal immigration, illicit mining, and human trafficking. Wanted suspects linked to violent crimes were also apprehended.
Police further confiscated firearms, ammunition, dangerous weapons, drugs, counterfeit goods, cash, vehicles, precious metals, explosives, and large quantities of liquor.
SAPS commends all members and stakeholders for their coordinated efforts. Operations of this nature will continue to combat crime and ensure safer communities.
