The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Edenvale Precinct Officers, arrested two (2) male suspects for driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance in the Edenvale area.
While conducting routine law enforcement duties, Officers observed two minibus taxis disobeying a stop sign. The vehicles were stopped and the drivers were informed of the reason for the stop.
During the interaction, Officers detected a strong smell of alcohol on both drivers’ breath. Breathalyser tests were conducted, yielding readings of 0.77 mg/1000ml and 0.25 mg/1000ml, both exceeding the legal limit.
The suspects, aged twenty-eight (28) and thirty-four (34) years, were escorted to a registered nurse for blood sample collection and subsequently detained at the Edenvale Police Station.
They are facing charges of driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance and are expected to appear before the Edenvale Magistrate’s Court soon.
