On Monday 11 May 2026, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Taxi Task Team, in conjunction with the Gauteng Traffic Police and the South African Police Service (SAPS), impounded seven (7) minibus taxis and three (3) vehicles, for failing to comply with the requirements of the National Road Traffic Act (Act 93 of 1996), in the Olifantsfontein area.
The joint operation focused on ensuring compliance within the minibus taxi industry across the City of Ekurhuleni. During the operation, Officers identified several violations, including operating without valid permits and operator cards. Some vehicles were also found to be unroadworthy and not compliant with the standards prescribed by the National Road Traffic Act (Act 93 of 1996).
As a result, all ten (10) vehicles were impounded and taken to the Kempton Park Vehicle Pound.
The EMPD urges all taxi owners, operators, and motorists to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy and fully compliant with all legal requirements before operating on public roads.
