An integrated operation involving Durban Metro Police Service Tracing Unit, South African Police Service Durban North Trio Crime, Metro Police uMhlanga Patrols, Metro Police Trio Crimes, Metro Police uMhlanga AO and Marshall Security SOT led to the successful arrest of four suspects linked to armed robberies committed in the Avoca area.
On Tuesday, 19 May 2026, members received information regarding armed robbery incidents involving suspects travelling in a blue Volkswagen Polo Vivo. Victims were robbed of their cellular phones at gunpoint along Tyne Avenue, Avoca.
Through swift intelligence gathering and tracking of a stolen iPhone, operational members traced the suspects to the uMhlanga area. While patrolling along Ridge Road towards Lighthouse Road, members spotted the suspect vehicle and intercepted it on uMhlanga Rocks Drive outside Family Grace Church.
During the operation, members recovered:
• Two firearms
• Ammunition
• Multiple suspected stolen cellular phones
All four suspects were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property, unlawful possession of firearms, and unlawful possession of ammunition.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Durban Magistrate’s Court today.
