The South African Weather Service has issued a Level 2 warning for disruptive rainfall affecting areas within the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro from Tuesday, 19 May 2026 at 11:00 until 23:59.
Heavy rainfall may result in:
🔹 Localised flooding of roads, low-lying areas, bridges and settlements
🔹 Dangerous driving conditions due to slippery and flooded roads
🔹 Water pooling which may obscure potholes and increase the risk of accidents
🔹 Disruptions to ongoing clean-up and recovery operations
Residents are urged to:
❌ NOT cross flooded rivers, roads or streams
🚗 Exercise extreme caution while driving
📻 Follow regular weather updates on radio and official social media platforms
🏠 Move valuable items to higher ground where possible and monitor surrounding conditions
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality continues to monitor the situation closely and urges residents to remain alert and prioritise safety at all times.
