Vital information provided by community members in Kathu led to the apprehension and arrest of two men, aged 19 and 40, and the recovery of suspected stolen property.
On 25 May 2026 at approximately 15:00, a team comprising Kathu Vispol and Detective members operationalised information which led them to the Kathu dumping site.
The team arrested two males believed to be linked to a housebreaking and theft case that was reported between 22 and 23 May 2026.
After receiving the information, the team went to the dumping site where they discovered suspected stolen property with an estimated value of R100 000.00 (one hundred thousand rand), including laptops, a PlayStation and several pairs of tekkies.
The Acting JTG District Commissioner, Brigadier Kenneth Baloyi, commended the Kathu SAPS team and appreciated the public for their assistance by providing valuable information, which led to the successful arrest of the suspects and recovery of the stolen items. “The public are the eyes and ears of the police, and continued cooperation and assistance will squeeze the space for criminals to operate in the district.”
The two suspects are expected to appear soon in the Kathu Magistrate’s Court on charges of housebreaking and theft.
