The synergy between Crime Intelligence and the #AntiGangUnit (AGU) continues to yield positive results in the Lejweleputswa District. Two men, aged 37 and 47, were arrested for possession of explosives in Meloding after police discovered explosives at their dwelling.
On Tuesday, 14 July 2026, members attached to the Welkom AGU received information from Thabong Crime Intelligence about suspects who were unlawfully in possession of explosives.
Information indicated that the suspects were looking to sell the explosives to interested buyers. The information was operationalised and led members to an address in the Senzela Section of Meloding.
Upon arrival at the identified address, a search was conducted during which eleven (11) cone-pack explosives were found.
The Explosives Unit was summoned to the scene to safely handle and remove the explosives. The eleven (11) cone-pack explosives were confiscated and booked in as evidence.
The suspects were arrested for contravening Section 6(1) of the Explosives Act 26 of 1956. They are expected to appear before the Virginia Magistrate’s Court soon.
