WESTERN CAPE – Police members attached to Operation Shanela deployed in the gang ridden areas of the Western Cape, pursued information which led to the discovery of a consignment of drugs and an imitation firearm, resulting in the detention of a 42-year-old female and an adult male in separate incidents.
Police members of Operation Shanela performed crime combatting operations in Muizenberg on Friday 22 August 2025, when they responded to information of drug dealing at a residence in Ruby Crescent in Sheridon Park. The members operationalised the information, approached the premises and conducted a search of the entire premises and occupants. Their persistence led them to the bathroom where they discovered a consignment of drugs hidden in plastic bags. They detained a 42-year-old female for dealing in drugs.
Meanwhile the members conducted visible patrols in the vicinity of Mnyamanzi and Zagwity Street in Browns farm on Saturday 23 August 2025, when they noticed a man who suddenly changed his direction upon noticing the members approaching. The members followed him on foot, apprehended and searched him and in the process confiscated a 9mm parabellum with ammunition. They detained the 16-year-old male for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
In an unrelated intervention police members attached to Operation Shanela II conducted stop and search operations in Storm Street, N2 Gateway in Delft on Sunday 24 August 2025, when they noticed a man who attempted to evade them. The members gave chase and apprehended the suspect, searched him and found a firearm with a magazine in his possession. Further inspection revealed that it was an imitation firearm. They detained the adult for the possession of an imitation firearm.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Muizenberg, Bellville and Athlone Magistrates’ Courts on the mentioned charges.
