On 29 August 2025, members of the Durban Metro Police Service Drug Team, acting on intelligence, apprehended two suspects tampering with municipal power cables on Cobdale Place, Newlands West.
The suspects were found with a Nissan NP300 bakkie, a ladder placed against a light pole, and approximately 30 meters of electricity cable marked “eThekwini Electricit@y”, along with a reflective vest. Investigations revealed that they were attempting to establish an unauthorised power connection to a residence that had been previously disconnected due to non-payment.
The eThekwini Electricity Department confirmed the connection was unauthorized and illegal.

● 1 reflective vest
● 1 Nissan NP300 van
● 1 ladder
Both suspects were immediately arrested for tampering with Essential Infrastructure and Possession/Receiving of Suspected Stolen Goods. They were detained at Newlands SAPS.
