A second suspect wanted on eleven (11) criminal cases was arrested this morning (Friday) while attempting to flee Chatsworth – KZN in a rented vehicle.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a tip-off from a source that a suspect that had evaded arrest during a joint operation by Reaction Officers & Detectives from SAPS King Shaka International Airport (KSIA) yesterday (Thursday) in Unit 5 – Chatsworth was about to flee the area to an unknown hideout.
Further information was received that the suspect was informed that his accomplice was held in custody & he had slept over at a friends home overnight in an attempt to hide law enforcement.
This morning at approx. 05:00 Reaction Officers position themselves at several exits/entry roads in Westcliff – Chatsworth and kept observation for a red VW Golf 1 believed to be hired to move the suspect to another area in Kwazulu Natal.
At approx 08:30 Reaction Officers noticed the VW Golf travelling towards Higginson Highway in Chatsworth & noticed the suspect concealing himself on the rear seat. An unidentified passenger was seated next to the driver. Informers could not confirm if the suspect/s were armed.
The vehicle was stopped & the wanted suspect was apprehended. He was later handed over to SAPS Detectives investigating the Thefts on the north coast between La Mercy & Balito – KZN. They had targeted specific vehicles. A red Renault Kwid was used in the commission of the crimes.
The suspect informed Officers that he had sold the stolen valuables to a a South African National operating a business on Umgeni Road in Durban – KZN.
