A 1.5 metre Boomslang was safely captured after being discovered inside a residence on Osindisweni – KZN yesterday (Thursday) afternoon.
The snake was spotted in the kitchen under a cupboard. RUSA Area Manager, Nkosinathi Ndaba, responded to the call for assistance. He successfully located and captured the snake without incident.
The Boomslang is a highly venomous species with potent Haemotoxic venom that affects blood clotting and can cause severe internal bleeding if a bite occurs. Due to the dangerous nature of this species, members of the public are urged not to attempt to handle or capture snakes themselves and to contact trained professionals.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) is in possession of a permit issued by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife authorising Reaction Officers, in their official capacity, to capture, temporarily possess, keep in captivity, release and translocate certain species of reptiles, amphibians and vertebrates.
No protected animals will be disposed of in any manner without prior approval from the Local District Conservation Officer.
