The police in Limpopo continue to intensify crime prevention efforts through #OperationShanela2, which resulted in the arrest of 27 suspects, including a suspect for possession of dagga worth over R2 million, in the Hoedspruit policing area on Friday, 13 March 2026.
The operation, conducted between 07:30 and 16:00 and later between 19:00 and 04:00, was carried out through a coordinated partnership involving SAPS, the Military Police, traffic officials, private security companies, Pro Track, and local Farm Watch structures.
During the day operation, members intercepted a 38-year-old foreign national male suspect shortly after entering the Hoedspruit Central Business District, while driving a white Toyota Hilux 4×4.
Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered 22 sack bags of dagga, graded as Swaziland dagga, with an estimated street value of over R2 million. The suspect was immediately arrested for possession of dagga, and the suspected drugs were confiscated as part of the investigation.
During the night operation, law enforcement agencies conducted compliance inspections and roadblocks in the The Oaks area, where 18 undocumented foreign nationals aged between 21 and 52, were arrested for contravention of the Immigration Act.
In addition, eight motorists aged between 27 and 49, were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol following roadside checks conducted along the D21 road near The Oaks.
Police also issued two fines for public drinking and indecent behaviour as part of ongoing efforts to enforce compliance with the law.
All arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Hoedspruit Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 16 March 2026.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies and community stakeholders.
