Five (5) people sustained serious injuries following a head-on collision on Old North Coast Road in Avoca Hills – KZN at approximately 00:17 this morning (Saturday, 24/05/2026).
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance from a member of the public. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene.
On arrival, Officers discovered a white VW Polo GTI and a white Toyota Hilux that had collided head-on in the intersection. The VW Polo was occupied by three (3) people from Inanda – KZN while two (2) occupants from Ntuzuma – KZN were travelling in the Toyota Hilux.
According to a witness, the Toyota Hilux was travelling from Avoca Hills – KZN and allegedly overtook a stationary vehicle while approaching the intersection. The VW Polo was travelling from the Mount Moriah – KZN side and reportedly had a green traffic light when the collision occurred. All five (5) occupants sustained serious injuries including head injuries and fractures.
They were stabilised on scene before being expedited to hospital by ambulance.
