The relentless efforts of the police to remove drugs from the streets continue to produce positive results. This follows an intelligence-driven operation conducted on 31 May 2026, by Counter Narcotics Crime Intelligence, the West Rand Tactical Response Team and the West Rand K9 Unit, which led to the arrest of one suspect and the recovery of crystal meth drugs.
The team operationalised information about two men dealing in drugs in Diepsloot. The premises were identified and, upon searching them, the team found a black refuse bag hidden under a mattress containing suspected crystal meth drugs weighing approximately 10 kg, with an estimated street value of about R3 million.
The 35-year-old man found at the scene was arrested for possession of drugs. The suspect is expected to appear before the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on 01 June 2026.
The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, has welcomed the arrest and applauded the team for their dedication to ridding communities of drugs.
“We remain committed to removing drugs from our streets and holding those responsible accountable. Drug peddling will not be tolerated in our province,” said Lt Gen Mthombeni.
