On Sunday 28 June 2026, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Kwa-Thema Precinct Officers, conducted a strategic drunk driving operation in the Kwa-Thema area, with support from other precincts.
Officers stopped multiple motor vehicles and breathalysed the drivers. Nine (9) motorists were found to be over the legal alcohol limit and were taken to the nearest healthcare facility for blood samples to be taken for further investigation.
During the operation, a driver was also arrested for reckless and negligent driving. In addition, ten (10) undocumented males were arrested.
All twenty (20) suspects were detained at Kwa-Thema SAPS and are expected to appear in the relevant Magistrate’s Court soon.
