The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Centre received a call for assistance at approximately 23:45 after a member of the public reported that a shooting had occurred between a tavern and the community hall on Ezwelisha Drive.
On arrival, Reaction Officers discovered an unresponsive male lying in the roadway. He had sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his face near his nose. A spent cartridge was located above his head, while a large amount of blood was visible on the road.
According to the public, only a single gunshot was heard. It was established that the victim, identified as 35-year-old Bobo Mpanza, had been returning home after visiting Brookdale in Phoenix – KZN. He had allegedly stopped briefly to purchase a beer before continuing alone when the shot was fired. The motive for the shooting remains unknown.
The deceased’s identity was confirmed by his family who were present at the scene.
