Yesterday afternoon, a group of criminals broke into a house in the Bhamshela – Nambithane area, stealing several household appliances including televisions, cellphones, and a white Ford Fiesta vehicle.
Crime Intelligence was activated and they were able to track the movement of the stolen vehicle as it headed towards the EThekwini Municipality. Our Durban Metro Police Service officers, working in partnership with Tongaat SAPS and private security companies, swiftly mobilized and intercepted the suspects in Tongaat.
During the chase, the suspects fled into the Super Cane area, where a drone equipped with thermal imaging was deployed. Despite operating at night, the drone successfully detected body heat signatures, leading to the arrest of one suspect and the recovery of the stolen Ford Fiesta along with several stolen appliances.
The remaining suspects are known to the police, and our officers are on their trail.
We commend the joint efforts of Crime Intelligence, Durban Metro Police, SAPS, and private security partners for their swift coordination and commitment to community safety.
