The Acting Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Brig Loyiso Ngalo, has welcomed the positive impact of the intensified roadblock operations currently being conducted across the Nelson Mandela Bay District as part of the SAPS Festive Season Safety Plan.
These multidisciplinary operations, carried out in partnership with Traffic Services and other law enforcement agencies, are aimed at ensuring road safety and reducing accidents during the busy festive period. As a result of these roadblocks, multiple traffic fines were issued, and within a period of just two days, more than 30 persons were arrested on charges of driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of liquor.
The Acting District Commissioner, Brig Ngalo, emphasized that drunk driving remains a serious threat to the safety of all road users and will not be tolerated. Motorists are urged to obey traffic laws, act responsibly, and ensure that they do not place their own lives or those of others at risk.
SAPS, together with all relevant law enforcement agencies, will continue to work closely and maintain a strong presence on the roads to ensure a safer festive season for all communities in the Nelson Mandela Bay District.
The SAPS calls on the public to cooperate with law enforcement officials and to report any criminal or reckless behaviour, as collective effort is key to keeping our roads and communities safe.
