On Monday 19 January 2026, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Anti-Cable Theft Southern Region Unit Officers, arrested a forty(40) year-old male suspect in the Mableton, Villa Liza area.
While patrolling along Boundary Street, Officers noticed a suspicious individual pushing a wheelbarrow. The individual was approached and stopped. Upon inspection and questioning him, Officers discovered approximately 60kg of copper loaded in the wheelbarrow.
The suspect failed to account for the copper and further investigation revealed that he was a foreign national, failing to produce valid documentation.
The suspect was arrested and detained at the Dawn Park Police Station, where he faces charges of possession of suspected stolen copper cable and being an illegal immigrant. He is expected to appear at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
