The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Intervention Unit Officers, together with Gauteng Traffic Wardens, arrested a fifty-two (52)-year-old male suspect for possession of a stolen vehicle in the Katlehong area.
While conducting crime prevention duties, Officers responded to a lookout alert issued by a tracking company regarding a silver-grey Toyota Land Cruiser that had been reported stolen in the Benoni area. It was further established that the vehicle had been fitted with two tracking devices. Although the suspect managed to remove one of the units, the second device remained active and continued transmitting signals.
This enabled Officers to trace the vehicle to Sontonga Road in Khumalo Valley. Upon following the coordinates, Officers successfully located and recovered the vehicle. One suspect was found in possession of the stolen vehicle at the scene.
The suspect was subsequently handcuffed and detained at Katlehong Police Station. He is expected to appear before the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
