Police continue to squeeze the space for criminals to operate, even when our members are off duty, to zero. This commitment was demonstrated yesterday when vigilant, off-duty police officers removed a suspected drug dealer and dangerous narcotics from the streets of Thaba Nchu.
On Wednesday, 20 May 2026, at approximately 15:36, off-duty members attached to the Mangaung Metro District Operational Command Centre (DOCC) East Task Team received and swiftly acted upon a tip-off. The intelligence pointed to an adult male who was allegedly dealing drugs at the local Thaba Nchu taxi rank.
Members immediately mobilised and proceeded to the busy transit hub. Upon arrival, the team spotted a male individual who matched the exact description provided. Utilising tactical precision, the officers approached and intercepted the suspect.
A thorough search was conducted on his person, which led to the discovery and seizure of:
• Multiple ziplock packets containing crushed Mandrax
• Small ziplock packets containing khat drugs
An undisclosed amount of cash found inside a small bag, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales, was also confiscated.
The 31-year-old suspect was immediately arrested. He faces charges of dealing in drugs and is expected to make his first appearance in the Thaba Nchu Magistrate’s Court soon.
