A 53-year-old man is expected to appear before the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 May 2026, on charges of possession of drugs following an incident at Groenpunt Correctional Centre.
On Thursday, 21 May 2026, members of the Deneysville SAPS received a report regarding a visitor allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs and cellular devices into the facility. Upon arrival at Groenpunt Correctional Centre, officers consulted with correctional officials who were conducting routine search procedures at Gate No. 02.
During the initial search of the suspect’s belongings, officials discovered two cellular phones and chargers. A more thorough search was conducted in the presence of correctional officials and additional items which were concealed on the suspect were revealed, including packets of suspected dagga, several small packets suspected to contain nyaope, suspected crystal methamphetamine, additional cellular phones and chargers, and loose cigarettes.
The suspect was taken into custody and charged accordingly. #FightingCrime #DrugsOffTheStreets
