On Saturday, 16 May 2026 at 23:45 members of Operation Lockdown III were conducting stop and search operations in Myrtle Road Bishop Lavis. A black VW Polo Playa, when approached by members, sped off and the occupants opened fire on them. The members retaliated and a high speed chase ensued resulting in the apprehension of the suspects in Civic Way, Matroosfontein, Elsies River.
A 9mm Glock firearm with four rounds of ammunition, including eleven spent cartridges were found in their possession. All exhibits including the VW Polo and firearm were confiscated and booked in at Bishop Lavis SAPS and the firearm will be sent for forensic analyses.
The three male occupants in the vehicle, aged 34, 36 and 42 will appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates court on a charge of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition once they have been charged.
No injuries were sustained by the SAPS members
