Members from Gert Sibande District Highway Patrol nabbed a 36-year-old Nigerian national for possession of substances suspected to be drugs in Bethal, on 15 December 2025.
The arrest of the suspect was effected after the Police received a tip-off about drugs that were kept at the suspect’s residence in Bethal . Police proceeded to the address given, and on arrival, they found the suspect and requested to conduct a search.
During the search police found a black plastic bag containing different types of drugs, including:
30 x Mandrax tablets
300g of Crystal Meth,
250g of Tik, with the estimated street value of R80 000
The police arrested the man and seized the drugs. While police were busy with the arrest, the suspect solicit his freedom by offering an amount of one thousand rand in cash, and an additional charge of bribery was added. The money was seized and will form part of the investigation.
The suspect was also found in possession of an expired asylum paper and contacted the Department of Home Affairs to ascertain the status of the suspect in the Republic of South Africa.
The suspect will appear at Bethal Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, facing charges of possession of drugs, contravention of immigration Act, and bribery.
