GAUTENG – The Johannesburg District Commissioner Major General Nonhlanhla Kubheka applauded the members and other law enforcement agencies for ensuring the safety and security of the community of Johannesburg.
Over 560 suspects were arrested for various crimes during the Safer festive season operations that were held throughout the district from 30 December 2025 to 04 January 2026. These operations include Safer festive season high density operation, station commander’s operations, illicit mining operation, and adhock roadblocks.
The police joined by other law enforcement agencies, apprehended about 250 suspects for various crimes during Safer festive season and high density operations, which were held around different policing precincts. 40 of the arrested suspects were apprehended on Saturday, 03 January 2026, in Sophiatown.
Another 26 suspects were also arrested for various crimes during the visible policing and station commander’s operations conducted by different stations across the district. The police also arrested 18 suspects for driving under the influence of liquor. During the illicit mining operation, which was held around Roodepoort policing precinct, 07 suspects were arrested, 03 for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and 04 illegal immigrants. Illegal mining tools that include 06 pendukas and 01 stamper pot were also confiscated.
During an intelligence driven operation, which was held in Ennerdale on 30 December 2025, 03 unlicensed 9mm pistols and 106 live rounds were recovered. In Bramley , 01 suspect was also arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. In Jhb Central on 03 January 2026, 01 suspect was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and stolen property after committing an armed robbery in Booysens .
During the adhock roadblock held along the N1 Grasmere toll Plaza in Lenasia South, 122 people and 89 vehicles were searched.
The district detectives also traced and arrested about 358 suspects for different crimes that include contact crime, contact related crimes, property crime, and other serious crimes.
Some of the arrested suspects will appear at various magistrate courts today.
