The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Overload Control Unit Officers, conducted a pedestrian safety operation, along the R21 and R25 freeways, in the Kempton Park and Boksburg areas.
The operation forms part of an ongoing effort, to improve road safety and prevent accidents and crashes involving pedestrians on freeways. Pedestrians are prohibited from walking or crossing freeways, as these high-speed roads are designed exclusively for vehicles.
During the operation, Officers apprehended more than thirty (30) pedestrians, who were found unlawfully crossing and walking on the freeway. The individuals, were educated on the dangers associated with freeway usage by pedestrians and were subsequently released with warnings, at the Boksburg police station.
