The South African Police Services (SAPS) Search & Rescue Unit have recommenced the recovery operation this morning (Tuesday) for a twenty two year old male who drowned yesterday (Monday).
Bandile Ntaka, who was initially rescued by life guards after getting into difficulties while swimming at Umdloti Beach in KZN, was swept away by a freak wave minutes later.
The family and a local councillor arrived at Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) hours after learning of the incident, requesting assistance. The R44 Helicopter was deployed (image 3/4) to assist in locating the body after heavy winds subsided. The recovery was abandoned at 17:15 (Monday) when darkness set in.
