Three (3) armed men robbed occupants of a property and kidnapped a 39 year old man during an armed robbery in Cottonlands – KZN yesterday afternoon (Monday, 25/05/2026).
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance at approximately 23:19. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene in Mahlabathini.
On arrival, Officers interviewed two (2) victims who stated that they were sleeping in a one-room outbuilding when the perpetrators removed a wooden board covering a window (picture 3) and pointed a firearm at them. The men allegedly forced the occupants to open the door before robbing them of two (2) mobile smartphones.
The intruders thereafter proceeded to another room on the property and instructed one of the victims to knock on the door so that his uncle could open it. When the 39 year old man opened the door, he was allegedly held at gunpoint and assaulted after being struck on the head with a firearm. He was then tied up with rope and abducted.
The assailants fled the scene in a Toyota Corolla. The colour and registration of the vehicle could not be confirmed.
It was further reported that gunshots were heard a short distance away from the property shortly after the incident.
A search of the surrounding area was conducted by Reaction Officers with negative results for the suspects, vehicle, or kidnapped man.
The incident is believed to be drug related, but this could not be confirmed
